Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim was born on January 27, 1927 in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.
1935 - With the death of his father, his mother Nilza marries Celso da Frota Pessoa who encourages him in his musical career.
1941 - He began studying music with the German Hans-Joachim Koellreutter.
Mid-40s - Starts playing piano in bars and nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro.
Early 50s - Works as an arranger at Estúdio Continental.
1953 - Records his first song, "Incerteza", with lyrics by Newton Mendonça.
1956 - Composes the music for the play "Orfeu da Conceição". The song that had the most prominence was "Se todos fossem iguais a você" with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes.
1958 - João Gilberto releases his first album with some songs by Tom Jobim and the term Bossa Nova appears.
